Today customers looking for healthcare providers that will meet their physical needs as well as fit into their busy schedules. These conditions and changing consumer demands have made it necessary to come up with a new physical therapy business model for both the inpatient and outpatient delivery of physical therapy services.

However, this new physical therapy business model would need to be different for inpatient and outpatient services and yet ultimately meet the needs of the community. This physical therapy business model would have to take into account a range of treatment options, aging concerns, staffing work schedules, commuting times, family and personal commitments and at the same time ensure patient satisfaction. Utilization of services and consumer satisfaction is the ultimate measure of success for any physical therapy business model.

The typical structure of a physical therapy business has the owner at the top with employees hired as therapists to provide the actual service. Various support or clerical staff is hired for carrying out administrative functions. However, most often, actual care of the patient is sacrificed in favor of paperwork, rules and policies.

However, a new outpatient model has the physical therapists as the owners as well. The new structure has multiple owners in the form of therapists instead of a single owner who in most cases would not be involved with the actual physical therapy services. In this new business model, the owner-therapists now have a financial, personal and professional reason to meet the customers’ needs through their physical therapy business. Eventually, as the business model matures, there is a need to expand the owners-therapists group so that the business can spread to more than one location.

At this point, the billing, marketing, accounting and other business related aspects would need to be brought under a central controlling structure to help the business expand in an efficient manner.

The second physical therapy business model is an inpatient model. This model is focused on the patient and the physical therapist’s facility. This physical therapy business model provides the expertise of a large physical therapy company and yet remains flexible enough to respond to the needs of customers. A management services company provides various management services that could range from handling just the documentation aspect to a full contract service. The management systems are usually developed in collaboration with the staff of the physical therapy facility. The management services company provides training to the staff of the physical therapy facility as well as monthly and quarterly result reports. http://www.therapynewsletter.com/index.html tells you more about physical therapy business models and how you can find one to meet the needs of your physical therapy business.

Have you one ever wondered what the key characteristics of a successful physical therapy business owner are?

Self education, the need for constant improvement, a burning desire to be financially independent and most importantly automation.

A successful physical therapy business owner is always learning new and innovative ways to market their practice. In addition, a savvy business owner of a physical therapy private practice is always learning new and innovative strategies to improve his or her own clinical skills. The ability to educate oneself and constantly improve is the hallmark of successful private practice owner. The need for constant improvement, as mentioned above goes hand-in-hand with self education. A successful physical therapy business owner is never satisfied with the current state of affairs and is constantly seeking interesting ways to expand their mind, improve efficiency in their practice and enhance quality of care for patients.

A great way to start is to reach out to physicians and local businesses in the area. These are the individuals and businesses that refer patients back to your practice, and should always been nurtured as valuable components in the marketing arsonal of a physical therapy business.

As a physical therapy business owner, you need to identify where most of your referrals are coming from. Typically, referrals for physical therapy business owners come from a variety of sources. These include physicians, patience and local business owners.

The question is, how do you leverage local businesses in your physical therapy business. The answer is very simple. Approach a local business with the giving hand. Remember, as a physical therapy business owner, you and a position to help market other businesses and potentially drive more customers their way. Keeping this in mind, you should approach the businesses with a positive, giving relationship.

At the end of the day, your goal is a physical therapy business owner is to establish freedom and independence for yourself. You want to build your physical therapy private practice to a point that it can run on autopilot, even in your absence. A successful physical therapy business owner is able to take vacations when he wants to, dedicate time and energy towards marketing a practice as opposed to clinical treatments and invest in avenues and opportunities to improve the physical therapy business. When a private practice owner establishes his own physical therapy business, the last thing on his mind is working long hours, juggling priorities, taking responsibility for successes and failures, placing personal money at risk and keeping ahead of the competition.

In order to minimise the difficulties associated with being a physical therapy business owner, you must have a clear strategy for obtaining in maximising referrals. This is the essence of physical therapy marketing.

Although business success is related to personal and professional characteristics, experience and skills are just as important. Marketing your physical therapy private practice requires a combination of personal attributes and business skills. While it’s important for you to be a good physical therapist and impact highest quality quality of care, your interpersonal skills and ability to forge new relationships with referral sources will ultimately play a bigger role in the success of your physical therapy business. The transformation of your physical therapy private practice is primarily dependent on your referral relationships. It is not the size and the with of your network that matters, it is the depth and the quality of relationships that determines the success of your physical therapy business.

From a marketing standpoint, all physical therapy clinic owners need to start with a focused purpose for running their physical therapy business.

If you are a private practice owner, ask yourself this simple question – why did you set up your physical therapy business?

Do you know how your business makes a difference to the lives of members in your community?

As a new physical therapy business owner, can you identify what your specialisation of physical therapy is? Do you know which type of patient you like to treat, and what your specific skill set is? Do you know, the typical profile of an average patient? These are important questions that most physical therapy business owners should be able to answer.

Do you know the direction in which your physical therapy business is heading? Most importantly, do you recognize what you want from your business?

If you own a physical therapy business, a good place to start is by defining your goals. You must be able to precisely state the purpose of your physical therapy business, and adapt as times change. As your physical therapy business grows, your priorities and objectives will change. For example, the first stage in physical therapy marketing is the establishment of referral relationships. Once a practice is able to establish such relationships, priorities change. As a physical therapy business owner, you may now want to start focusing on staff recruitment, retention and benefits.

Begin with writing down what first comes to mind about the purpose of your business and then transform that into a statement.

Knowing your priorities and your area of specialization is your first step as a physical therapy business owner.

I remember my first few days as a new physical therapy business owner. It seemed challenging, yet exciting. It was a daunting, yet liberating experience.

One of the first objectives as a physical therapy business owner is to identify the source of new business. Specifically, it’s important to determine which physicians were the best referral sources. In this situation, the most prudent move for a physical therapy business owner is to research physicians in the neighbourhood. Identify the types of patients, they like to treat, and provide the physicians with tools and resources to better service their patients..

As a physical therapy business owner, you need to identify where most of your referrals are coming from. Typically, referrals for physical therapy business owners come from a variety of sources. These include physicians, patience and local business owners.

An overlooked source of referrals for a physical therapy business owner is the presence of local businesses. The truth is, most local business owners know at least 40 to 50 people. Leveraging the sphere of influence of another individual, specifically local business owners is one of the best physical therapy marketing strategies you can never use. You are in fact, a as a physical therapy business owner, in a position to promote other businesses and drive more clients to them. Once you recognize this power, you can be great strides in your physical therapy private practice.

A physical therapy business is exactly what the name suggests – it is a business. Most private practitioners are not trained in business skills. This can make it difficult, especially for a new physical therapy business owner.

Although business success is related to personal and professional characteristics, experience
and skills are just as important. Marketing your physical therapy private practice requires a combination of personal attributes and business skills.

Answers to these questions will allow you to plan for the future effectively, since you know exactly what the purpose of their business is. It will help you distinguish good opportunities from poor ones.

Now you will be in a position to truly market your physical therapy business. The experience of these particular skill sets will go a long way in helping you establish a successful physical therapy private practice.

As with any business, a precise sense of direction is important for a physical therapy business owner. As a practice grows and other concerns like staffing, customer support and location expansion become obvious, a physical therapy business owner must adapt to the need of the hour.

If you own a physical therapy business, a good place to start is by defining your goals. You must be able to precisely state the purpose of your physical therapy business, and adapt as times change.

Begin with writing down what first comes to mind about the purpose of your business and then transform that into a statement.

Knowing your priorities and your area of specialization is your first step as a physical therapy business owner.

If you’re a physical therapy business owner, there are many things you need to be careful about.

As a physical therapy business owner, you need to identify where most of your referrals are coming from. Typically, referrals for physical therapy business owners come from a variety of sources. These include physicians, patience and local business owners.

Most physical therapy clinic owners are serious about building their business.

Physical therapy services are offered in physical therapy clinics all across the country. These services usually comprise of therapeutic programs customized to each patient’s needs for the treatment of physical dysfunctions and prevention of further deterioration of certain body parts due to disease, injury or aging. Other programs may also comprise of supervised weight loss, physical strengthening or conditioning, and functional re-training.

The different types of physical therapy programs are supervised by licensed physical therapists. It is their job to evaluate and prescribe appropriate therapeutic measures according to their patient findings. Many times, therapists find themselves teaching patients basic motor skills like how to get up and out of bed then sitting on a chair from this position, walking with crutches on uneven ground, and retraining patients how to write or walk again either with damaged, but recovering limbs or with prosthetics.

The physical therapist needs to take an accurate and detailed patient history to be able to properly evaluate the problem. This includes performing certain function tests and taking meticulous measurements to assess the problem. Some examples of tests could be: coordination tests, joint motion, muscle strength, balance, flexibility, sensory and neurological tests, palpation, postural screening, movement analysis and other specific tests designed for specific problems. After evaluating the results of these tests, the therapist will then come up with the best treatment plan to help the patient recover and attain his goals of overcoming whatever dysfunction is present.

Part of physical therapy services include teaching patients how to operate devices designed to assist in their mobility like wheelchairs, crutches or other equipment at work or at home to allow patients as much independence as possible. Therapists check out the patient’s environments and advice them on the best, safest and most convenient ways to confer their surroundings for their utmost productivity.

Some of the treatment protocols used in these programs include electrical stimulation, hot and cold packs, therapeutic exercises, ultrasound treatments, training in functional activities, traction, whirlpools, UV rays, infrared, TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation), intermittent compression pumps and more. There must be regular weekly treatment sessions for the program to take effect, as well as concerted effort and participation on the patient’s part.

Other useful techniques to aid in recovery include massage, neuro-development, and joint mobilization to stimulate soft tissue flexibility and maintain joint mobility. As the patient progresses, therapists continue to apply the best therapeutic concepts and treatments as appropriate at that stage of the recovery.

Physical therapists also educate their patients on ways to prevent the problem from recurring and ways to manage the current problem. Many times, prevention is as simple as a correction in posture, body movement, and doing stretches, which most patients are usually unaware of, therefore, it is the therapist’s responsibility to bring these to their attention through instructions or handouts.

It is undeniable that physical therapy services play an important role in today’s management of health and well being. However, more than this, is the skill and knowledge that a physical therapist brings to be able to use these services in the best way possible for the patient concerned in order to bring about their recovery and healing.

The best way to keep your revenues growing as well as boost your physical therapy salaries is through customer retention. The way to make your customers stay is by keeping them satisfied with your services. Customer appreciation programs are a proven marketing technique for retaining customers and for taking care of physical therapy salaries.

Here are a few tips on developing a customer appreciation program in your clinic.

It costs five times more to get a new customer than to retain one which is why I am stressing on customer retention. You just have to keep your customers if you want your physical therapy salaries to keep increasing.

A customer appreciation program is a way to show your appreciation for your customers on a regular basis.

Begin by making a list of all the initiatives that you will introduce to show your customers that they are special for you. Ideally plan something every month for your customers as part of the appreciation program. Come up with creative ideas on how to pamper your customers. You could try hosting educational seminars, cook-outs, coffee meets etc. You could use holiday themes to make your program more relevant and interesting. For example, you could organize a low calories salad and soup party in the summer months.

Before you kick start the program, educate your employees about customer appreciation and how it ultimately impacts physical therapy salaries. Insist on some basic etiquette in customer facing situations.

Customize your services as much as possible. Make a note of the names of your regular customers and address them by their first names when you speak to them. Maintain eye contact when talking to customers and let them know that their satisfaction is your first priority.

As part of your customer appreciation program, communicate with your customers in order to establish a rapport with them. Send a thank you card to customers who regularly use your services.

Use customer appreciation events to launch new services or products to your most loyal group of customers. Organize demonstrations or samples during such events.

When organizing a customer appreciation event, put up posters around your clinic with the day, time and location of the event. Advertising in the newspaper, may also bring in new customers who may want to be part of such events. Make it a point to send out personalized mailers to your loyal customers to make them feel special.
